Follow along in the spirit of famed and forgotten environmental writer John Burroughs as our guide travels through New York’s biodiverse Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountains. A story of personal discovery and observation to honor and explore the fragile and ever changing landscape through modernization, industry, and tourism.
This film explores the cultural legacy of the Hudson River and introduces us to the 19th Century landscape painter Thomas Cole who founded the first American art movement (the Hudson River School of painting) when he sailed up the Hudson River to Catskill, NY. His influence can be felt today in the works of Illustrator and children’s book author Hudson Talbott, as well as the renowned painter Stephen Hannock.
