Beyond the Block is a speaking series that gives the guys inside Sing Sing Prison the opportunity to share their ideas with an outside audience which is not something that’s commonly done. There’s a lot of talent behind those bars and this is an opportunity for guys to say hey yes I screwed up, but I still have value.

Behind The Scenes

It’s not to be taken lightly the opportunity to be able participate in storytelling from inside the walls of a prison. Getting in and out with all of our equipment was no small task and coming into the prison provided a small window of what that experience is like for the actual men who live there, but the difference was we were able to leave and go back to our families each night.

There’s a potential longer form version of the experience being edited into a film which will give even a deeper look at this incredible event and the some of the men behind it. I’m thankful to Media Tank, and Hudson Link for the opportunity and the sincerest gratitude to the men who welcomed us with open arms and shared their stories with such generosity.
