This film explores the cultural legacy of the Hudson River and introduces us to the 19th Century landscape painter Thomas Cole who founded the first American art movement (the Hudson River School of painting) when he sailed up the Hudson River to Catskill, NY. His influence can be felt today in the works of Illustrator and children’s book author Hudson Talbott, as well as the renowned painter Stephen Hannock.

“I gained a much deeper love for the river and a deeper understanding of how important it was and remains to our culture.”

-Hudson Talbott

Behind The Scenes

The story revolves around famed landscape painter Thomas Cole so it was nice to bring in that element with some recreation scenes. Much of the landscape has changed, but also some of the pristine spots he frequented are still pretty wild allowing us to find frames that didn’t reveal the time period.
